Blogger MVP/Rookie of the Year Rankings - Round 2

A big thanks to Rob Mahoney over at Upside and Motor for compiling the second round this year's Blogger MVP/Rookie of the Year rankings in the most creative fashion I have seen yet.  Chauncey has moved from others receiving votes into the rankings so head on over and see how high he has climbed.

Wow

I do NOT want to know how you found that picture.

MVP — I’d put Pierce at #9, but keep the rest of your list intact. I’m just not a Pierce fan. I’m probably biased though. Love that you have Devin Harris on the list. Kid’s a blast to watch. Too bad he’s on such a God-forsakenly bad team.

As for ROY, I’d probably put George Hill at #5 with Jason Thompson a close #6. Hell, we almost single handedly put Mike Hill on the list.

If I could change two things

It would be the two you mentioned. I think I put Pierce a little too high and I was remiss in not having Hill in front of Thompson. I need to do my rankings more than a 30 minutes before the deadline.

I had to find something punitive to make people realize they should care about my rankings. It is amazing what kind of pictures Google can turn up with a search for “nasty fat guy.”

I think

Western conference player of the week Brandon Roy should be in the discussion, possibly higher than C-Bill. He has closed out so many games for the Blazers this season to produce their 14-6 record. Such poise. The way he can control the tempo of games is intimidating. His midrange game right now is probably the most lethal in the league. I know that the guys over at Blazer’s Edge are clamouring for him to be considered and they make a good case.

Roy

I had completely forgotten about him. Damn.

It might be fair to say that we’re entering a golden age of NBA talent right now. There are so many great young players out there that it’s unreal.

Bosh probably gets downgraded

After what we did to his team – being the best player on a mediocre squad with no direction, with so many other great players out there – not so much in the MVP discussion right this second. Especially the way he got totally flummoxed by Chauncey on that awesome behind-the-back baseline pass on Tuesday. I mean – he didn’t even realize the play had developed until after it was time to inbound!

I am curious to know what’s going on inside Melo’s head these days. He’s hurt, a lesser player is getting all the love on HIS team, his points scored are down, three(!) members of his draft class are lighting up the league at unbelievable levels and making teams go into conniptions about possibly landing them TWO YEARS FROM NOW, he has a reputation for being a non-factor in the playoffs, winning four games in the 24 his team has participated in… and George Karl is his coach. He couldn’t make it work with a HOFer on the team (barely got into the playoffs).

I hope he’s at peace with the knowledge that Billups really CAN help him get a good seed in the playoffs and win once they get there. And that he really is having a great season, under the radar.

If Melo is thinking like that

then he is an idiot and in the long run we would be better off without him. Of course, I don’t think that he is. We know the guy really loves to win and I doubt he envies Bosh or even Wade at this point. He has a chance to go deep into the Western Conference playoffs. That should mean a lot more to him than being a Top 5 scorer on a losing team.

I agree that he wants to win

I’m really not questioning that at all. I guess I just try to put myself in his shoes, and wonder if my own ego could cope with his current reality. The mind has a funny way of playing tricks on us, especially if we’re a little insecure. I guess I think of Melo as just a touch insecure.
