Two season previews
Arch-community-nemesis Blazers Edge:
Once upon a time Chicago was the young team destined for greatness. They’re not supposed to be so young anymore. They’re not old by any means but with Deng entering his fifth season and Hinrich his sixth plus Hughes and Gooden in the starting lineup, they should have enough veterans to do the job. It’s ironic, then, that so many hopes are pinned on a rookie.
Dave's logic, and I agree, is that the Bulls need to increase their high-percentage shot attempts and have someone become a leader, and it's Derrick Rose or bust.
Bonus (sort of) link, Basketbawful moonlighting at Deadspin. Low-post scorer, 'identity', etc.

Shoals decided to boycott writing about anything regarding Ben Gordon a couple months ago -- something about Gordon holding out for more money than he deserves. Shoals hates arrogance.

Coach Skiles said the following about Malik Allen "He's a very reliable player. He's always going to be in the right place and (he) knows what he is doing. He executes the game plan and makes open shots." Now, if you look at the chart above, the record clearly shows that Allen is not that reliable (if your game plan involves having your big men rebound) and he certainly does not make open shots (his adjusted FG% is well below the average).

Abraham has flu, bout with Raul Marquez postponed
The fight, as well as the rest of the card -- which was to have been Saturday in Bamberg, Germany -- has been rescheduled for Nov. 8, also in Bamberg, organizers said.
Gordon talks contract, and about those darned media filters. At least he and Pax can agree on that.

Andrew Wamboldt on Ben Gordon
Now this is a guy who loves Gordon. Even more than I do. So it's a bit much, but he makes good points. Namely the one about how the Bulls behaved in these negotiations like they didn't really want Gordon at all.
Vinny Del Negro good-vibes story day
Just part of the feel-goodery surrounding VDN's first practice, as a coach, ever.
It'll all be mocked if the season goes in the tank, but for now the quotes are all smile-inducing, not the least of which this one from Derrick Rose:
This is great. I woke up early around 7 o'clock. Practice was at 9:30, but I really couldn't believe it that I'm finally in the NBA. So I got up early thinking that I was a professional, getting here early, warming up and all that stuff. It made me feel good.
Makes me feel good too.
